How far is Manchester Airport from East Lancashire?

Manchester Airport sits roughly 35 miles south-east of Blackburn and Accrington, and around 40-45 miles from Burnley and Clitheroe via the M65, M66 and M62 — one of the shortest airport runs you'll find for a major international hub in the North of England.

Manchester has three passenger terminals — T1, T2 and T3 — all within walking distance of each other, linked by covered walkways and the Skylink travelator.

T1 and T2 handle the bulk of long-haul and full-service short-haul flights — Emirates, Singapore Airlines, easyJet and TUI — while T3 mainly serves Ryanair and domestic routes.

Best route from Lancashire to Manchester Airport

From the Hyndburn towns — Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Church and Clayton-le-Moors — the usual run takes the M65 west to the M61 at Preston, then onto the M60 ring and the M56 spur straight into the airport. Fast, predictable and almost entirely motorway.

From Blackburn, Great Harwood and Rishton, it's the A6777/M65 west to the M61 — typically 50 minutes off-peak.

From Burnley, Nelson, Colne and the Pendle towns, the M65 west feeds onto the M61 south of Bolton.

From Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley, the A59 joins the M65, then follows the same motorway route west to Manchester.

Early-morning Manchester flights

Manchester's first departures roll at 06:00 — easyJet, TUI and Ryanair all run early European flights, and long-haul check-in often opens at 04:30.
